Understanding SPA
Scintillation proximity assay (SPA), is an innovative approach for assay development and biochemical screening that allows the rapid and sensitive measurement of a wide variety of molecular interactions in a homogeneous system.

Understanding Cytostar-T TM plates
Cytostar-T scintillating microplates are the same size and shape as standard 96-well microplates but have been designed specifically for cell-based assays.

These are based on the principles of scintillation proximity assay (SPA) technology and requires the use of b-emitting isotopes, such as 14C, 32P, 35S, 125I and 3H.

Cell Proliferation Fluorescence Assay(SPA)
The Cell Proliferation Fluorescence Assay enables precise, fast, and simple quantitation of cell proliferation with a fluorescent endpoint. The assay utilizes nuclease digestion of DNA to allow antibody access to incorporated BrdU. Detection of bound antibody is achieved using a Cy5 labeled antibody to mouse immunoglobulin giving a fluorescent signal at sites of BrdU incorporation. Because there are no adverse affects on cell/tissue morphology, the Cell Proliferation Fluorescence Assay is ideal for use with automated sub-cellular imaging equipment and fluorescent microscopes. The assay has also been validated for use with some fluorescent plate readers.

Distribution, metabolism and pharmaco kinetics (DMPK)
Offer robust alternatives to conventional techniques such as equilibrium dialysis and ultrafiltration.

  • SPA's proven screening technology offers sensitivity, versatility, and miniaturization capabilities.
  • SPA DMPK formats available include plasma protein binding, transporter protein binding, cytochrome (CYP) P450 activity, and competition binding assays.
  • Cytostar-T scintillating microplates offer real-time, non-invasive homogeneous cell-based assays suitable for tissue culture.
  • Cytostar-T DMPK formats available include assays for thymidine and leucine uptake.
